North Dakota
by Cade Siemers
Combine broke on the county line
Crack a Pabst Blue Ribbon gotta bide the time
My Uncle says that the cutters stuck
And the weather’s screaming ‘Don’t press your luck’
My Tools are in Trent’s pickup truck
Todd’s over ta’ Kenmare and plowin’ it up
Gotta hear the hum of that threshing drum
We gotta’ catch this wheat before
The Snowman comes
He said, North Dakota Runs lean and mean
Pert’near the whole state bleeds John Deere green
Family strong, ‘Ya Bet Cha’ tough
Damn winters here will call your bluff
Got buckshot women who love the pleasure
Of men who love passin’ wheat ‘cross the header.
This ground once broken by hand
Bind’s our tribe to southern land
She’s North Dakota
And just like your daddy told ya
She like’s it North of Texas
Just South of the border
A combine stuck out in the field
Takes more than beer to make the cutter yield
My Uncle says what my Pop-Pop’d say
When farming wouldn’t go his way
He’d say ‘Breakdowns come and breakdowns go
just like the North Dakotan snow
Ah, The Snowman he must die come spring
Hear the
Bells-of-Bow
Go Ding-Ding-Ding!’
He said, North Dakota Runs lean and mean
Pert’near the whole state bleeds John Deere green
Family strong, ‘Ya Bet Cha’ tough
Damn winters here will call your bluff
Got ‘Flicker-Tail’ women who love the pleasure
Of men who love passin’ wheat ‘cross the header.
This ground once broken by hand
Bind’s our tribe to southern land
She’s North Dakota
And just like your daddy told ya
She like’s it North of Texas
Just South of the border
She’s North Dakota
Seems The Blues forgot to scold her
She like’s it North of Texas
Just South of the border
(Guitar Solo)
This ground once broken by hand
Bind’s our tribe to southern land
She’s North Dakota
And just like your daddy told ya
She like’s it North of Texas
Just South of the border
She’s North Dakota
Got no need for walls to hold her
She like’s it North of Texas
Just South of the border
North of Texas
Just South of the border
Livin’ North of Texas
Just South of the border

Ordinary Man
By Cade Siemers
Standing on the shoulder of this lost forgotten road
I have cast off all aspersions, set down my heavy load
I have traveled many miles in life, struck out against it’s flow
Now the being winds of change blow through a perforated soul
I stand, Just as I am
Bloodied up and beaten down
Just an ordinary man
Let these broken bones be living proof I took life on the chin
And let every aged scar review a man who loves to sin
Oh I have cried salty tears
When sweet sweet love wounded my better years
Still I stand, an ordinary man.
Accustomed as I am to insurrection from all sides
There are bridges I have burned to stem the rising tide.
My rarest act’s been virtue not the vengeance I have sown
And now it seems those rarer acts have been way overblown
Where the mountain rises high, the valley plummets deep.
I long for that sweet middle ground I’ve only found in sleep.
I stand, Just as I am
Bloodied up and beaten down
Just an ordinary man
Let these broken bones be living proof I took life on the chin
And let every aged scar review a man who loves to sin
Oh I have cried salty tears
When sweet sweet love has laid waste to my foolish fears
Still I stand, an ordinary man
Here I stand, an ordinary man

Victory
By Cade Siemers
Have you bore witness to your television
Seen the drones still dropping bombs
Heard the politicians vision
As those fights keep droning on
In a good many ways these days seem so strange
That it cuts against the grain
Every aim to insist
Every strike of the fist
Seems a’ fightin’ ‘gainst the rain
Feels so many times there’s so much on the line
It’s imperative to win
Victory’s just the clearing of the battlefield
So another can begin
Will we see an end to violence
And stop pickin’ at our wounds
Or remain mired in ignorance
And keep on barking at the moon
In a good many ways each turn of the page
Is only advocating for a righteous rage
Fight for the poor
Fight for the right
Fight the thing that scares ya
so you’ll sleep well tonight
Full up with fear tis hard to see clear
So you’ll do all it takes to win
Victory’s just the clearing of a battlefield
So another can begin
(Instrumental)
And our congressmen fight for others
The bankers for increase
While our armies fight their brothers
In a bid to foster peace
Go on, fight the brave fight
yeah, sacrifice your sons
Battle all the sons-a-bitches tryin’ to
Take ‘way your guns
Keep diggin’ that hole down the potters ground
For the dead can’t suffer
Yeah, the dead make no sound
Covered in mud and the warmth of their blood
You showed what it takes to win
Victory’s just the clearing of a battlefield
So another can begin
(Interlude)
How ya doin’ with your relationships
Are there keepers keepin’ score
Is your love a sign of innocence
Or the pretext for a war
Must our talk of peace
That bears such grace
Translate into a harsh and boisterous act of disgrace
We’re cutting our throats
in the depths of space
Will our Lunar-Lander ever reach ‘Tranquillity Base’
Though compassion calls
We’re in up to our balls
Too deafened by the din
Victory’s just the clearing of a battlefield
So another can begin
Of course victory feels fine
but we only got so much time
To celebrate our bloody win
Before our sh*t gets cleared off the battlefield
So another can begin
Praise God we cleared the battlefield
Watch it all begin again

This Republic Can
By Cade Siemers
Have you heard tell the amazing story
Of the people who suffered for this countries glory?
Where do you fit in this tale getting told?
Will you author a justice for young and for old?
Can you reconcile the violence of fear
With all you hold sacred with all you hold dear?
And abide, as a brother, with your fellow man
Despite the position on which he might stand?
Oh mercy, mercy me, sweet land of liberty
This republic can
This republic can
Lend its most democratic hand
This republic can.
Can our Chieftains and leaders cease pullin’ the wool?
Must they stoop at the alter of bear and of bull?
Can they heed to the nameless deprived of their choice,
Who lack the hard dollars to strengthen their voice?
Can we stop indulging in corporate greed
For what it must conquer, for whom it must bleed;
And sip with more grace, our daily grind,
‘Stead a cutting our throats for the ol’ bottom line?
Oh mercy, mercy me, sweet land of liberty
This republic can
This republic can
Play its most democratic hand

This republic can.
Whatever thoughts that we think
Whatever schemes we might try
Whatever truths we might tell
Whatever lies we might lie
Can we extend the same tolerance as the sky above?
(Instrumental)
At times we’ve been careless, at times we’ve been blind
For freedom’s the birthright of all human kind.
Can we forgive this body and forgive this mind,
That’s bound to its circumstance, born to its time,
And lift up our eyes to adore the sun
That shines its light for everyone?
Oh mercy, mercy me, sweet land of liberty
This republic can
This republic can
Make its most forbearing stand
This republic can.
This republic can
This republic can
Be a land for all to stand
This republic can.
